Two quotes from H.L. Mencken:
- “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed — and hence clamorous to be led to safety — by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
- “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false face for the urge to rule it.”
And two more quotes on knowledge and politics:
- “When the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the pursuit of knowledge is reduced to the quest for power.” -Alston Chase
- “The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses.” -Vladimir Lenin
Tom Scott has gathered a hundred or so wonderful quotes. A few like
those above directly address the socialist nature of power politics, while the rest talk to disaster nonsense from America’s recent past.
Many of the quotes will make you wonder how these kinds of lunatics have gained influence over our country’s political direction. Taken as a whole, I expect you may be furious that you and I have allowed it to happen.
Though I’ve seen many (most?) of these quotes, I found this compendium to be a welcome reminder that, whether the authors are lunatics or just evil, they should not be in charge of our future.
