Silver Miners’ Q2’20 Fundamentals

By Adam Hamilton – Re-Blogged From Silver Phoenix

The silver miners’ stocks have had a roller-coaster ride of a year, getting sucked into March’s stock panic before skyrocketing out in a massive upleg. While much-higher prevailing silver prices radically improve silver-stock fundamentals, Q2’s national economic lockdowns to fight COVID-19 wreaked havoc on this sector. The silver miners’ latest quarterly results recently released revealed unprecedented challenges.

The silver-stock realm is tiny, as there aren’t many major silver miners in the world. Only a handful are primary silver producers, companies deriving over half their revenues from silver. So in mid-August as silver miners finished reporting their latest Q2’20 operational and financial results, this sector’s leading benchmark and trading vehicle only held $1.1b in net assets. It is the SIL Global X Silver Miners ETF.

Silver Miners’ Q1’17 Fundamentals

By Adam Hamilton – Re-Blogged From http://www.Silver-Phoenix500.com

Silver mining is a tough business both geologically and economically.  Primary silver deposits, those with enough silver to generate over half their revenues when mined, are quite rare.  Most of the world’s silver ore formed alongside base metals or gold, and their value usually well outweighs silver’s.  So typically in any given year, less than a third of the global mined silver supply actually comes from primary silver mines!

The world authority on silver supply-and-demand fundamentals is the Silver Institute.  It recently released its highly-anticipated World Silver Survey 2017, which covers 2016.  Last year only 30% of silver mined came from primary silver mines, a slight increase.  The remaining 70% of silver produced was simply a byproduct.  35% of the total mined supply came from lead/zinc mines, 23% from copper, and 12% from gold.

Gold Miners’ Q1’17 Fundamentals

By Adam Hamilton – Re-Blogged From www.Gold-Eagle.com

The gold miners’ stocks have been slammed by a sharp gold pullback in recent weeks, spawning today’s bearish sentiment.  Traders often get caught up in the emotional swings generated by this volatile sector.  But once a quarter earnings season arrives, revealing gold mining’s hard fundamental realities which dispel the obscuring sentiment fogs.  The major gold miners’ profitability actually just exploded higher in Q1!

Four times a year publicly-traded companies release treasure troves of valuable information in the form of quarterly reports.  Companies trading in the States are required to file 10-Qs with the US Securities and Exchange Commission by 45 calendar days after quarter-ends.  Canadian companies have similar requirements.  Some companies in other countries with half-year reporting instead of quarterly even follow suit.

So the world’s major gold miners are just wrapping up their first-quarter earnings season.  After spending decades intensely studying and actively trading this contrarian sector, there’s no gold-stock data I look forward to more than the miners’ quarterly financial and operational reports.  They offer a true and clear snapshot of what’s really going on, shattering the misconceptions bred by the ever-shifting winds of sentiment.

Silver Miners’ Q3’16 Fundamentals

By Adam Hamilton – Re-Blogged From http://www.Silver-Phoenix500.com

The silver miners recently finished reporting their third-quarter results, offering a hard fundamental look into this sector.  This reality check is valuable given the fierce winds of bearish sentiment buffeting silver stocks in recent months.  Despite their huge correction, the elite silver miners’ fundamentals remain strong.  They are producing at costs far below prevailing silver levels, with profits poised to soar as silver recovers.

Silver mining is a tough business both geologically and economically.  Primary silver deposits, those with enough silver to generate over half their revenues when mined, are quite rare.  Most of the world’s silver ore formed alongside base metals or gold, and their value usually well outweighs silver’s.  According to the venerable Silver Institute, only 30% of 2015’s global mined supply came from primary silver mines!

Gold Miners’ Q3’16 Fundamentals

By Adam Hamilton – Re-Blogged From http://www.Gold-Eagle.com

The gold miners just finished reporting their third-quarter results, which proved very impressive.  While this small contrarian sector is now languishing in the doghouse following a brutal post-election selloff, the gold miners’ fundamentals are strengthening.  Lower costs and higher gold prices led to surging operating cash flows and profits.  The major gold miners are great fundamental bargains for contrarians today.

Gold-stock bulls are among the largest ever seen in all the markets.  The flagship HUI gold-stock index skyrocketed 1664% higher over 10.8 years ending in September 2011, trouncing general-stock-market losses of 14% per the S&P 500.  Even this year between mid-January and early August, the HUI soared 182% in just 6.5 months!  Radical wealth-multiplying upside like that is well worth any psychological price.

And that is extreme volatility in gold stocks, which alternatively soar then collapse.  After the election as futures speculators dumped gold hedges, the gold stocks suffered an incredible second mass-stopping event in less than 6 weeks.  That took the HUI’s total massive correction to a colossal 36.6% in just 3.3 months!  Provocatively mid-bull corrections of this magnitude have been suffered before in gold stocks.
