Carbon Tax Goes Down in Flames

By Mike Bastach – Re-Blogged From WUWT

Washington voters rejected a ballot measure backed by a vast coalition of liberal groups to tax carbon dioxide emissions from in-state fossil fuel combustion.

The measure, called Initiative 1631, is the third attempt to impose a carbon tax in Washington state. Voters rejected a similar ballot measure in 2016, and carbon tax legislation failed earlier in 2018.

EU Committee Rules Could ‘Destroy The Internet As We Know It’

By Mac Slavo – Re-Blogged From Freedom Outpost

A European Union committee has just approved rules that could “destroy the internet as we know it.” The two new and controversial rules change the dynamics of the internet and introduce wide-ranging new changes to the way the web works.

For starters, the rules, known as Article 11 and Article 13 could be used to “ban memes.” Article 13 has been criticized by campaigners who claim that it could force internet companies to ban all memes. It requires that all websites check posts against a database of copyrighted work, and remove those that are flagged. The reason many believe this could lead to a meme ban is that memes often use images taken from films or TV shows and could be removed by websites under article 13.  It’s just a convenient and propagandized way of making censorship sound better, though.

Seattle’s ‘Tax-the-Rich’ Measure Spurs Freedom Foundation Lawsuit

By Rob Williams – Re-Blogged From Newsmax

The Freedom Foundation, a conservative think tank, sued Seattle after its city council passed a measure in July that would place a 2.25 percent income tax on wealthier residents.

The tax was estimated to affect the 9,000, or 2 percent, of the city’s taxpayers – people who make more than $250,000, or $500,000 for couples filing jointly.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of 19 Seattle citizens, alleges the proposed tax violates the state constitution and restrictions on cities to impose income taxes, The Wall Street Journal reported. Another group called the Opportunity for All Coalition, founded by Seattle venture capitalist Matt McIlwain, filed a lawsuit the same day, the newspaper said.

Obama Oil Tax Will Increase Gasoline Prices

By – Re-Blogged From Capitalism Magazine

It seems that Obama, while gladly taking credit for the drop in gas and fuel prices, desperately wants them to rise again.

President Barack Obama will propose a $10-per-barrel charge on oil to fund clean transportation projects as part of his final budget request next week, the White House said Thursday.

Oil companies would pay the fee, which would be gradually introduced over five years. The government would use the revenue to help fund high-speed railways, autonomous cars and other travel systems, aiming to reduce emissions from the nation’s transportation system.

It’s a classic example of manipulation. “We don’t want you to drive. We want you to use trains, buses and other travel systems instead. Instead of passing a law forbidding you to drive a car, which even Republicans might not permit just yet, we will pass a law making it less possible for you to afford to drive your own car. We will still call it a choice.” This is what manipulators do.

Obama said Friday that the investments would put the United States in a “much stronger position” in the coming decades, particularly if oil prices start to rise again. It makes more sense to levy the charge now while gas prices remain low for consumers, he contended.

This is also what manipulators do. “Raising the cost of oil is for your own good. It’s going to rise again anyway. So let’s get it over with now. Instead of reserving your pain for the future, or giving you time to plan for such price rises in the market, let’s impose the pain right now.” It’s also what sadists do. Masochists accept the pain, and welcome it as their due by their masters.
